Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21 There sure is plenty of evil in this world. Look at the newspaper, listen to the nightly news, walk down the halls of any school, watch children or adults interact. Evil is inescapable! Surely it has and will impact your life. If we are not careful, looking at, hearing, or reading about all the evil in this world can certainly overcome us and leave us feeling rather gloomy. If it has happened to us, we might even feel like retaliating! dGod informs us in his word, hold on, I will take care of the evil doers. “It is mine to avenge.” (Rom. 12:19) Instead, we are to treat our enemies as if they are our …… family or friends! If they are hungry, feed them. Thirsty? Give them a drink. Go ahead and care for the basic needs of your enemies today and overcome evil by doing good. This is the instruction and the example of God who did not treat us as we deserve, but provided for the basic spiritual need of all of humanity, yes even you, by becoming a curse. In the ultimate spiritual sense, Jesus paid the price for our evil acts, and overcame evil with good. Have you experienced the power of this goodness in your life? Take some time to pray about it, and then let goodness do its thing.
